A New and Vital Link between the Public Safety and High Technology Communities
The mission of the Public Safety Technology Center (PSTC) is to stimulate and oversee the development and use of advanced technologies that can help reduce violent crime, promote officer safety, and impact public safetys ability to effectively combat crime and respond to terrorist threats.
- A Clearinghouse for Public Safety Technology
On behalf of state and local law enforcement agencies, the PSTC screens and evaluates new technologies, PSTC solicits and evaluates the technology needs as perceived by these agencies, which are subsequently communicated to both the federal government agencies funding technology development and to private companies developing related technologies.
Because approximately 90% of law enforcement agencies in this country have less than 100 sworn officers, and no full-time research and development staff, PSTCs experienced team possesses the ability to reach out to these under-served agencies to help them identify and locate the technologies they will need in the 21st Century.
- Strategic Planning
The PSTC also provides Strategic Planning Programs for public safety officials and managers based on a detailed knowledge of model policies, trends, and innovative programs presently being developed for public safety organizations.
- Training
The PSTC provides education, training and management programs tailored to the specific needs of public safety agencies. The scope and nature of policing services have changed dramatically throughout 1990s and will continue to evolve in the future. For example, community policing programs that have a customer focus, and that utilize contemporary problem solving processes, empower their employees, and partner with others are more likely to succeed. The successful implementation of such innovative programs will require a comprehensive training capability that the PSTC can readily provide.
- Senior Executive Seminars
Academically-accredited Executive Training Courses and Seminars for senior level law enforcement managers in a number of relevant subject areas are offered including:
- Technology and Materials Sourcing
- Technology Management
- Procurement
- Training
- New Technologies for New Threats
As the criminal justice community prepares itself for the 21st Century, many managers have come to realize that they can no longer do business as usual. They can no longer rely on in-house expertise if they want to utilize cutting edge technologies in meeting the ever-evolving expectations placed upon them by the communities they serve. Recent trends indicate a willingness on the part of chiefs and sheriffs to contract for many services, including technology assessment and implementation, review of policy and procedures, training and the development of planning strategies.
CTCs Public Safety Technology Center is uniquely qualified to provide for these requirements and for many more.
